The 14 Areas in Sudan at the Highest Risk of Famine

War in Sudan has triggered fears of widespread famine, with leading hunger experts warning the country faces "the worst levels of acute food insecurity ever recorded." At least 14 areas are at the highest risk of famine, with over 750,000 people facing starvation. The areas include parts of the capital Khartoum, the regions of Darfur and Kordofan, and El Gezira state.

The report said that at least 25 million people experience emergency levels of hunger, 755,000 in catastrophic conditions, and the risk of famine in several regions. Children are especially vulnerable in this crisis.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) jointly stated that "for half of Sudan's war-battered population, every single day is a struggle to feed themselves and their families."
