Wild Weather Destroys South African Homes, More Storms Coming

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning that cold, wet, and windy conditions will continue across South Africa, with more snow and rains expected in some parts of the Free State, North West, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, and Western Cape.

Anton Bredell, the Western Cape MEC of local government, Environmental Affairs, and Development Planning said that the Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC) continued to monitor the weather situation as the cold front moves across the province.

The City of Cape Town, Overberg, Cape Winelands, and West Coast Districts were hardest hit by the severe weather. Thousands of homes in informal settlements near Cape Town have been destroyed by gale-force winds, affecting more than 15,000 people.
