Angola's Borders Hit Hard With Human Trafficking Cases

Angola has documented 200 cases of human trafficking over the past nine years, according to Ana Celeste Januario, the Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, during a thematic session in Luanda on the Program for the Promotion of Human Rights.

Januario said that the provinces most affected by this issue are primarily the border areas, and the capital Luanda. She urged the public to adhere to established regulations and conduct business in designated areas to maintain cleanliness in the city and uphold recognized rights, thereby preventing negative interactions with law enforcement.

To protect the population in human rights matters, the sector has implemented actions from 2022 to 2024, including the establishment of local human rights committees in 18 provinces, 164 municipalities, 110 communes, and 518 districts, and plans to update those committees and establish eight centers in schools in 2025.
