World Leaders Urged to End Global Food Scarcity at G20 Summit

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has urged G20 leaders to address the urgent issue of global hunger, which affected one in every 11 people worldwide last year. This comes amid growing concerns about global food insecurity exacerbated by conflicts, climate change, and economic disparities.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged world leaders to intensify efforts to eliminate poverty and hunger. "We must advance gender equality. And we must overcome the planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, and pollution," the South African president said.

The G20 meeting is taking place at the same time as the COP29 climate conference in Azerbaijan, which has stagnated over the issue of greater climate finance for developing nations.
