New Cases of Mpox Reported Across The Continent

Mpox cases continue to spread on the continent as health authorities warn against complacency. In its latest assessment of the situation, the World Health Organization said different parts of Africa are experiencing outbreaks with multiple virus variants known as clades. WHO said as of December 1, 2024, more than 13,000 confirmed cases have been reported in 20 countries.

The report notes that some clades are spread through sexual contact, while physical contact is the transmission mode for others. Research is underway to fully understand the various mpox strains and how they are spread.
