Mozambique's Political Fault Lines - Power, Protest, and Conflict

Mozambique experienced significant political unrest when opposition parties alleged widespread electoral fraud in their October 2024 elections. The country's electoral body confirmed the victory of the ruling party Frelimo, with Daniel Chapo as the winning presidential candidate.

Regional powers have been accused of prioritizing political alliances over democratic principles, preventing effective mediation and exacerbating the crisis. The unrest has resulted in at least 300 deaths, raising concerns about the country's political stability and economic future, writes allAfrica's Melody Chironda.
