Children Bear the Brunt of Escalating Violence in DR Congo

The intensifying violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), particularly in eastern regions like Goma, has inflicted severe suffering on civilians, with children disproportionately affected, according to Unicef.

The refugee agency estimates that hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced by the intense fighting, with little to no access to shelter, food, or medical care. The conflict has forced children to flee repeatedly, while many have been separated from their families, leaving them vulnerable to abduction, recruitment by armed groups, and further abuse.

Unicef continues to call for increased diplomatic efforts to put an end to the military escalation and to forge a lasting political solution to the violence so that the country's children can live in peace.
