Ghanaian Lawmakers ReIntroduce Controversial Anti-Gay Legislation

The bill seeks to increase the prison term for same-sex relationships and also impose jail time for the "promotion and sponsorship" of LGBTQI+ activities. Former president Akufo-Addo did not sign it into law, although the proposed legislation was first passed by parliament in 2024.

President John Mahama has said he prefers a national consensus before "we decide to move that Bill forward".
